Clarets sign O'Connor

At the beginning of the week we extended Richard Duffy’s stay at Burnley by another month and now we have strengthened the midfield with the capture of the Dubliner who has been unable to break into the West Brom side this season.

He's a player well known to Cotterill, he played for him during his short time as Stoke manager at the beginning of the 2002/03 season.

O’Connor was linked with the Clarets in the summer of last year when he decided to move from Stoke, a club he had been with from the start of his career. But Gary Megson stepped in and signed him for West Brom for a knock down fee of £250,000 which upset Stoke.

He was a regular in the West Brom side right from the start of last season and starred in their 4-1 win against the Clarets in August last year. However, he lost his place just after Christmas and has struggled to get back into the first team since.

His 30 league appearances last season took his total league appearances past 200 but this season he has featured in just one game, the Baggies Carling Cup defeat at Colchester. That will make him ineligible for the tie against Spurs.

Despite this he will be available for the Clarets next six league games as we look to get back on track after the last two disappointing home results in the league.
