Clarets sign Hungarian keeper Kiraly

He was released by the Legend at the end of last season after three years at Selhurst Park and looked to be heading back to mainland Europe and to Germany where he made his name with Hertha Berlin, but Steve Cotterill has clinched the signing and the Hungarian international has signed a two year deal with an option for a third year.

He's played 65 times for his country, a country that half a century ago was leading the football world, but it was whilst playing in Germany that he established himself in his national side. Having started his career at home with Haladas he moved to play for Hertha Berlin in 1997 and became first choice keeper.

His performances were such that when Palace reached the Premiership in 2004 and were looking for a keeper, Iain Dowie brought him to this country. In three years at Palace he's played over a hundred league games but with the change of manager last summer it was clear that he was not to be offered new terms.

He got what appeared to be one last opportunity in the Premiership when Martin O'Neill took him to Aston Villa on an emergency loan after both his two main goalkeepers suffered injuries. He played five games in the top league and one in the FA Cup when a stoppage time mistake against Manchester United ended their chances of a replay.

On his return to Palace he got back into the first team but as expected he was released at the end of the season. Now 31, he's become Steve Cotterill's first close season signing as we look to build a stronger squad for the 2007/08 season.
