Graham Branch gets past Nico Herzig in our win over Franchise last season
Although nothing has as yet been confirmed it looks very much as if the two friendlies in Austria will in fact be against German Bundesliga 2 sides Wacker Burghausen and TSV München 1860.

The first of the two matches looks set to take place at the Clarets training camp on the Wednesday against Wacker Burghausen and we could well come up against a player who was involved in a Division One game against us just before the end of last season.

They have done something of a Sheffield United this week and have signed six new players. Two of them are brothers who have both had spells in English football.

Defender Nico Herzig has been with Franchise for the past two seasons and was in the side that were beaten 2-0 at the Turf just two months ago. He made 19 league appearances for them.

His younger brother Denny was at Blackpool during the 2002/03 season but didn’t make a first team appearance. Both of them have returned to their native Germany and signed for Wacker Burghausen.

Three days later and it should be a date with a club with something more of a history in TSV München 1860. They had their best days around the same time as the Clarets and won the German Cup in 1964 going on to reach the European Cup-Winners Cup Final the following year, losing out to West Ham.

Nicknamed The Lions they were Bundesliga Champions in 1966 and a year later came close to retaining the title. Since then they have never finished higher in the league than their fierce rivals Bayern.

The two clubs are more than rivals and neighbours now, for the last eight years they have shared the Olympiastadion and will continue to do so with the replacement stadium being built for the next World Cup.

They were actually formed in 1848 but were reformed in 1860 as TV München 1860. A merger with SV München in 1934 brought about the current name. They were in their formative years a basketball club and football wasn’t introduced until 1899.

They ended last season next to bottom of Bundesliga 1 and have been relegated along with bottom club FC Köln. They were level on goal difference with Eintracht Frankfurt, the last German side the Clarets met back in 1967 in the Fairs Cup.
