Clarets set for two matches in Austria

Salzburg - where the fans will be based during our week in Austria
The squad are flying out to their Obertraun base on Sunday 24th July, the day after the home game against Malaga, and will once again be out there for a week before returning home a week before the 2005/06 Football League season gets underway.

This year the two matches are expected to go ahead on the Tuesday evening and the Friday evening – 26th and 29th July – and the opposition is expected to be revealed very soon. It is not expected to be either of the two German sides we played a year ago SV Wacker Burghausen and TSV München 1860.

Hopefully the weather will be somewhat kinder in the build up this year and we don’t finish with a chase across the mountains, along with the lonely goat herds, trying to find out where they are being played. A year ago the first match was originally scheduled for Gmunden but due to the heavy rain had to be moved to Ebensee.

Thankfully when Ebensee was declared unfit the day before the match fans were alerted by a series of phone calls and text messages to send them to Vöcklebruck.

As soon as we have news of the opposition, or any further details of the week, we’ll report them here on Clarets Mad. The Burnley fans will again base themselves in Salzburg but for the many people who had planned to go for the weekend again it looks almost certain that there will be no game on the Saturday this time with Burnley having requested the Tuesday and Friday.
