Clarets set for Friday Penny appeal

The initial application for a work permit was turned down, but that is standard practice based on very clearly defined criteria, and now we go to the appeals panel on Friday.

There was considerable speculation regarding Penny some weeks ago and the potential for a work permit appeal, but the Clarets have remained tight lipped rather than announce the signing as they did a year ago with Besart Berisha.

It is all now a question of waiting for the response from the appeal this coming Friday, and if successful Penny will complete his signing for the Clarets.

The player said: "My agent is handling the negotiations with Burnley. The last thing he said to me is that the only thing that is left to be done is obtaining my work permit to be able to play in England.

"Besides that, the negotiations are going in the right way. I prefer not talking too much about it. I have to wait and be calm. To tell the truth I don't want to stay. I want to leave Peru to play in a better league and to have a better way of living, a better lifestyle. I want to improve, so if this transfer is done it will be a very good chance."
