Clarets set for fixture appeal win

It was a decision that upset our chairman Barry Kilby who was quick to point out that the decision, a police decision, could cost Accrington Stanley Football Club as much as £100,000 in lost revenue with Burnley supporters unable to take in their games.

I couldn't agree with Barry at all, my concern is not with Accrington Stanley or their chairman Eric Whalley, but I did sympathise in that I feel it is wrong for the police to be making such decisions and I found it incredible that a division of the Lancashire Constabulary were claiming they would have difficulties policing games at Blackburn and Accrington on the same day.

Following on from that, it has today been revealed that both Burnley and Accrington Stanley made appeals to the fixture planners expressing concerns that both clubs would lose out financially if home games were scheduled on the same day.

From that further consultations were held between the police and the Football League and it is understood that a decision has now been made to try and ensure that both clubs will not have home games at the same time.

We'll know for certain in under three days when the fixtures for the 2006/07 season are announced and they will be available here on Clarets Mad from 10:00 a.m.
