Clarets set for cup draw

Blundell Park - venue for our first round tie in 2007/08 against Grimsby

It takes place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and although there has been no confirmation from the Football League it is expected that as in past years the round will be drawn on a north/south basis as well as the clubs being seeded.

That places Burnley in the northern group of seeded clubs meaning our opponents will come from the northern group of unseeded clubs. There are always some clubs on the borderline and occasionally one club is placed in the northern group despite being south of a club in the southern group but I suspect our opponents will come from one of the following eighteen clubs.

They are: Accrington, Bradford City, Bury, Chester, Chesterfield, Crewe, Darlington, Grimsby, Hartlepool, Lincoln, Macclesfield, Morecambe, Notts County, Port Vale, Rochdale, Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Stockport.

The draw could pair us with a club we haven't met previously in this competition. There are six in that list of clubs namely: Accrington, Darlington, Macclesfield, Morecambe, Notts County and Port Vale.
