Clarets need a goalkeeper

Sander Westerveld - linked with a loan move to Burnley
When Brian Jensen was sent off at Luton on Saturday it left the Clarets with two problems, the first of which was to somehow get through the remaining 50 minutes plus, something that we did with great success.

Now, with Danny Coyne injured, we need to find someone to replace Jensen when he serves his one match suspension. The only available goalkeeper at the club will be 17 year-old Mark Crossley and he himself is serving a suspension after a recent red card at Blackpool in a reserve game.

Apparently there has been no SOS call put out for either Frank Petter Kval or Luigi Cennamo. We have no idea where Kval is but Luigi is currently playing his football for Elageo.in the Greek League and featured in Intertoto Cup matches during the summer.

It is always the case that Burnley supporters always consider former players are and we can reveal that Andy Marriott is currently keeping goal for Torquay, Paul Crichton got a game for Gillingham last month, Nik Michopolous has retired whilst we did hear that Marlon Beresford conceded a few goals on Saturday and doesn’t even save penalties these days.

Likely loanees Paul Jones and Nicky Weaver are already out on loan so we can cross those two off the list and we can only speculate and wait for news from the club, probably some time next week.

Some of the national papers have jumped the gun and linked us with former Liverpool and Real Sociadad goalkeeper Sander Westerveld. The Dutch international is currently at Portsmouth and started the season in the first team only to be replaced by Jamie Ashdown after four games.

It would be a surprise given that he is still involved with the first team at Fratton Park and is usually named as substitute goalkeeper. Mind you nothing would surprise at that club where Alain Perrin is still somehow surviving as manager.

Whoever it is, we will only need him for one game in terms of the Beast’s suspension – but after that it would be good to have a goalkeeper on the bench. Three times this season we have had to change keeper during a game, we need to be prepared should it happen a fourth time.
