Clarets moving in on new boss

Steve Cotterill - left Leicester two days ago
News today suggests that the Burnley are ready to move and speak to a shortlist of candidates although it would be a surprise if the new manager hasn’t already had contact with the club.

Ronnie Moore is apparently still the favourite for the job but the complication of the Rotherham take over and even the possible intervention of Leeds could lead to the Clarets looking elsewhere.

Cotterill appears to be very much in the equation and it may well be significant that he left Leicester on Tuesday of this week where he had been working as a coach. Leicester revealed that he was moving on with the intention of starting the 2004/05 season in management.

That is something he left, somewhat abruptly, early in the 2002/03 season to join Howard Wilkinson in what proved to be a nightmare move to Sunderland. Since they were sacked at the Stadium of Light he has failed to earn himself another opportunity as the number one.

As Colin Lee certainly appears to have faded away, and news that Eric Black may well not have got past the first stage of talks, Cotterill could well be joining the likes of Moore and Phil Brown as the current leading candidates to take over from Stan Ternent.

The speculation will meanwhile continue until the appointment is made, probably early during the week after next.
