Clarets move for Tudgay

Burnley have made a £1.75 million offer for the 26-year-old who started his career with Derby County and scored fourteen goals for Wednesday last season. He scored the first Championship goal of the season against us and got the fourth in their 4-1 win at Hillsborough. In February he was at it again and scored their first two as they hit us for four again on the Turf.

Tudgay's league debut came for Derby at Gillingham in August 2002 as a late substitute, but it was another fourteen months before he got his first start. Later in that 2003/04 season he made his Turf Moor debut on the day a Graham Branch goal won the game for the Clarets to just about ensure safety.

In the following season he scored Derby's first in a 2-0 win at the Turf and that remained his only goal against us until he did his best to halt our promotion run last season.

He joined Sheffield Wednesday from Derby in January 2006 on a four and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee. He scored some vital goals in his first season to help keep them up and he's gone on to net 38 goals for them to add to the 18 he scored for Derby.

He's played either as a striker or in one of the wide positions and it is that versatility that could appeal to Owen Coyle.

Last season he won the PFA Fans Player of the Year Award after twice winning monthly awards and was also voted the Sheffield Wednesday Player of the Year.

Only last month Tudgay signed a new deal with Wednesday until the end of the 2011/12 season, but he is added to an increasing list of players we have made moves for including two other forwards in Swansea's Jason Scotland and Steven Fletcher of Hibs.
