Clarets miss out in latest Team of the Week

Given that some of the choices have been somewhat strange this season we might have expected a Claret in there but common sense has prevailed and there is no sign of any of our players in there.

The full team this week is: Michael Oakes (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Ian Roper (Walsall), Neil Clement (West Bromwich Albion), Martin McIntosh (Rotherham United), Craig Fleming (Norwich City), Ali Benarbia (Manchester City), Gary Holt (Norwich City), Karim Fradin (Stockport County), Tim Cahill (Millwall), David Neilsen (Norwich City), Luke Beckett (Stockport County).

There was good news for ex-Clarets though with three of them making the teams in the 2nd and 3rd divisions, all three of them players who came through the youths at Turf Moor.

In Division Two Swindon's Matty Heywood was selected. Matty has been a regular at the County Ground since signing last season and has become a crowd favourite with the Swindon fans.

Former captain Chris Brass, now at York, has won himself a place in the 3rd division team this week alongside his former youth team and first team colleague at Burnley, Paul Smith. Brassy captains York whilst Smudger has been a big hit at Hartlepool, his arrival there coinciding with the upturn in fortunes for the North East club.

Congratulations to all three of them, now all we need is a good few Burnley players to win a place in this week's team.
