Clarets making signings

Last updated : 13 September 2004 By Tony Scholes

The first of them, former Lille, Luton and Hearts winger, Jean-Louis Valois made his debut for the Clarets in the 3-0 win against Crewe on Saturday, coming on for the last few minutes as a substitute for Lee Roche.

He was a sensation when he first arrived at Luton and the same can be said for his first few months at Hearts – his first touch on Saturday was a good header and he followed that up with a good cross field ball to Richard Chaplow.

The manager said on Saturday that he had signed both of them, yet didn’t reveal the second name, but today the club announced that he is Amado Sanokho, a 29-year-old midfielder who has been playing his football in Italy for Seria D club Sanguistese. He had previously been with Modena having started his career at Nantes.

There is some belief that he might have played for the Clarets before, in a reserve game back in January 2003. We had two trialists that night, the other was Diallo, in a 2-0 defeat against Wolves.

The player that night was called Amando Sankhara and surprise, surprise his former clubs were listed as Nantes and Modena. He played the first half that night and certainly turned in an impressive performance.

However, he clashed with a Wolves’ Keith Andrews and sustained a serious eye injury bringing his Turf Moor trial to an abrupt end. This player though was 23, so now 25 and the new player at Turf Moor is 29.

Whether it is the same player or not, and those watching the reserves that night will be hoping it is, we are awaiting international clearance from Italy before he can play for the Clarets.
