Clarets make late Riordan bid

It's been a ongoing saga throughout January with Burnley keen to sign Riordan and Celtic similarly wanting to sign Kyle Lafferty in a move that would have seen him become Burnley's record breaking sale.

Celtic turned down an offer from us for Riordan, believed to be around £400,000, but when they made their move for Lafferty a few days ago it was a big offer that involved Riordan moving to Turf Moor.

Manager Owen Coyle didn't want to sell and so that appeared to be the end of it, but Scottish sources for Sky have tonight revealed that we have put in a late offer which again has been turned down by the SPL club.

That appears to be the end of it, and with just over 40 minutes to go before the window closes it looks very unlikely that we will come to any sort of agreement to bring the player to Turf Moor. There again a year ago I wrote just after the window had closed that we'd had a quiet day only to find the morning after that Steven Caldwell had signed seven minutes before midnight.

So you never know, although it is looking very doubtful.
