Clarets Mad to face Vintage Clarets

Last updated : 07 May 2014 By Tony Scholes

Tony was best known to us as NUTZ. He'd joined the message board in 2003 and soon became a regular, often joining his old schoolteacher David Evans (Eli) in a pre-match pint in the Bridge.

It was NUTZ who instigated the Clarets Madiham games in 2006, and he even played in one of them despite being some years past the day he'd retired as a player. He'd been a keen local sportsman at both football, as a goalkeeper, and at cricket where he played in the Lancashire League.

Sadly he passed away last June from cancer at just 54 and now, in his memory, the game has been resurrected in a special way with the appearance of the Vintage Clarets.

All proceeds from the game will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Support.

What can you do to help?

We still have places available to play, We are asking that all our players raise, through their own sponsorship, a minimum of £50 to take part. There will be a maximum of one goalkeeper and fourteen outfield players so there will be plenty of game time for all those taking part.

Obviously, the Vintage Clarets will line up in their own claret and blue kit and Clarets Mad will play in the 2013/14 Burnley FC away kit which will be yours to keep after the game.

We would like as many people to attend the game as possible. So please, pass on the details of the game to all you know via word of mouth, text, social media or whatever methods of communication you use.

There will be no entrance charge but we will be asking for donations to the charity on the gate so please give generously.

There will be a raffle held during the game so if you have any items you could donate they would be very much appreciated.

Please contact us by EMAIL if you can help in any way.

Once we have some team news from the Vintage Clarets we'll let you know.
