Clarets Mad off to look at their seats

Last updated : 11 July 2002 By Tony Scholes

You probably won't know anything about this fixture by visiting Clarets Mad as the club have said that the official site is the only place you will here about it. So we had better not tell you that we will be playing Bury on 3rd August at Gigg Lane.

During the crisis at Bury last season Clarets Mad contributed by buying seats in the away end and so this will give us our first opportunity to go and take a look at the seats before enjoying the game.

Enjoying the game did I say, that's hardly likely. Apart from a League Cup win there in 1982 and a 1988 Sherpa Van Trophy win you have to go back before World War II to find our last win there. The 1982 win though came in a week of goalscoring for the Clarets. We won the first leg of the League Cup tie there 5-3 and on the following Saturday won a League game at Middlesbrough 4-1. The nine goals were scored by nine different players, only goalkeeper Alan Stevenson and defender David Holt failing to find the net.

This game has always been a more than likely pre-season fixture. Stan said he wanted to go there and help them raise funds after making a contribution himself by buying seats. He enjoyed his time as Bury manager and always speaks highly of the club. Sadly they don't think quite so highly of Stan, they have managed to spell his name incorrectly on their web site.

There will be no tickets for the game, all admission will be by payment at the turnstile and prices are £10 adults and £5 concessions.
