Clarets looking to raid Stoke again

This time it is midfielder cum full back and Stoke captain Clive Clarke who has one year left of his current contract. Given Stoke’s record that should mean they will be offering him an extension around next June if they want him to stay.

A number of clubs have shown an interest but just Sunderland and Burnley have made offers says Rudge with Burnley’s £125,000 the bigger of the two. However, they have decided not to sell him because the new manager needs time to look at the players in pre-season before making a judgement.

The 25 year-old Republic of Ireland international made his debut for Stoke, his only club, at Oldham at the end of the 1998/99 season and has gone on to make over 250 appearances for them and is the current club captain.

That should be the end of it but I suspect the Dubliner will be on his way from the Potteries before the start of the new season, whether his destination is Turf Moor remains to be seen.
