Clarets looking to extend loan deal

Whittingham arrived the day before we played Crewe last month and went straight into the side for that game and has been in there ever since, playing seven league and cup games for us.

Steve believes he has been getting better during his stay with us and said today, “I think when he first came he was a little bit low on confidence because he hadn’t played a lot of football.

“He’s got better as time has gone on and I’m still trying to sort out with him what is his best position and I think I might have come to a conclusion on that now.”

The Clarets’ boss also praised his attitude and admitted that he would like to sign him if it was at all possible. “He’s a great lad and I’d have him here tomorrow. Both of the boys who have come in from Aston Villa have been an absolute credit.

“We’ve been delighted with them and they are a credit to their youth team coach Kevin McDonald at Villa. He’s doing a fantastic job bringing them up there.”

There’s been no news either way from Villa but it is likely they will be happy with Whittingham joining Gary Cahill and staying at Burnley until the end of the season.
