The 29-year-old holding midfielder started 29 games for the Dutch side last season, scoring three goals, and he's also played Champions League football with PSV Eindhoven where he played for current Russian boss Guus Hiddink.

He was with PSV from 2002 to 2005 before returning to his current club Vitesse Arnhem with whom he started his career.

He played a total of four Champions League games for PSV, one of which was against Arsenal and he scored in another against Borussia Dortmund.

He also played in the semi-final in 2005 against AC Milan but was on the losing side as the Italians went on to the final against Liverpool.

Van der Schaaf has  been attracting interest from Cardiff and has been shown around their training ground by manager Dave Jones. He's also wanted by a number of clubs in Turkey but is now believed to be a possible signing for Clarets boss Owen Coyle.
