There was just one yellow card in the two games, but that's no surprise, this particular referee hasn't embraced the card waving policy of many of today's officials and just gets on with the game, more often than not without even giving many decisions.
In particular, don't expect too many decisions for handball. On a number of occasions we've seen him at Burnley just ignore this most obvious of offences, presumably just to keep the game going.
In his last Championship match he upset Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd after his side lost at Barnsley. Boothroyd's complaint was because of him not giving decisions.
Pike's averaging more than two yellow cards per game this season with twenty-four in eleven games, and just to keep things nice and even twelve have gone to home team players and twelve to away team players. There have been no red cards, but last season he sent off two players and both of them in the same game.
Overall I think we can expect a quiet game from him, with few cards and not many free kicks. Anything other than that will see a big change in style from this referee.
The assistant referees will be Paul Kettlewell (Lancashire) and Mick McDonough (Tyne & Wear) with fourth official duties in the hands of David Storrie (West Yorkshire).
