Reports suggest that Owen Coyle is set to fly in the player who currently plays his football in Latvia with Skonto Riga. He's been with them since moving from FK Valmiera in 2002.

Kalniņš has played sixteen times for his country, making his debut in 2004. Coyle suggested yesterday that he was looking to bring in two new players and he admitted recently that he would like to add another striker to his squad.

Just five days ago Kalniņš was in action for his club against our Championship rivals Blackpool in Riga. Skonto won it 4-0 and he played the first half alongside former Southampton striker Marian Pahars. It was 3-0 at half time with Kalniņš having got the first and the third.
