Clarets in Maynard bid

This morning's press are suggesting that we have made an offer of £3.75 million for the former Crewe striker who was one of the leading goalscorers in the Championship last season with twenty goals.

That completed his second season at Ashton Gate after a £2.25 million move from Crewe for the forward who had come through the Gresty Road youth ranks.

He benefited from Steve Jones moving to Burnley which accelerated his move into the first team and having hit over 30 goals in two seasons there has done just the same at Bristol City, including their goal in our 2-1 win at Ashton Gate in December 2008 from the penalty spot.

However, City won't be keen to sell with new manager Steve Coppell targeting promotion and only yesterday he said of Maynard: ""Everyone keeps telling me there's so much interest for Nicky Maynard but thankfully I have not received a phone call. Long may that continue."
