Clarets hit four more in Italy

There were only two changes to the side that started Tuesday's game, Michael Duff coming in for Frank Sinclair at right back and Micah Hyde replacing Wade Elliott in a reshuffled midfield. Whether that gives us any clues as to who will start next Saturday we will just have to wait and see.

It took us just about fifteen minutes to take the lead and what a good goal it was. It was Steve Jones again, following up his four goals three days earlier, as he latched onto a superb ball from James O'Connor, turning the defender and finishing into the bottom corner.

We should have increased the lead but the Alense goalkeeper came to his side's rescue more than once during the first half. He was helpless though when the Clarets did get a second right on half time when Andy Gray, looking impressive again, hit the ball across him following a pass from Chris McCann.

Two up at half time but Alense came back at us early in the second half and pulled one back before coming close to an equaliser. That equaliser didn't come and Burnley were back on top again with a goal that saw the other side of Jones, that of a winger. He got past a number of defenders, crossed the ball and McCann netted at the second attempt to restore the two goal advantage.

From then on only the keeper kept Burnley at bay but Gray added a fourth from the edge of the box. That was the end of the scoring although Garreth O'Connor hit the woodwork right at the end.

All in all another good workout, another fantastic atmosphere from the Burnley fans who had grown in numbers, and even the singing of Umbaba launched by members of the West Yorkshire Clarets.

It just left time for Steve Cotterill and his team to join the fans after the game, something that brough the whole Italian experience to a very enjoyable end.

Next time the Clarets play it will be back home and it will count - with hopefully us still in goal hungry mood.

All but the injured Danny Karbassiyoon took part and Burnley lined up: Brian Jensen (Danny Coyne 74), Michael Duff (Duane Courtney 74), Stephen Foster (Frank Sinclair 58), Wayne Thomas (John McGreal 58), Jon Harley (Graham Branch 58), Alan Mahon (Garreth O'Connor 62), James O'Connor (John Spicer 62), Micah Hyde, Chris McCann (Wade Elliott 58), Steve Jones (Kyle Lafferty 62), Andy Gray.
