Clarets get Oldham in Carling Cup

In the strange seeded draw, Mr Misery Trevor Francis pulled out ball number 5 for the home slot against the pre-drawn Oldham and this will be the first time the clubs have met in this particular competition.

Cup ties between the clubs have been few and far between over the years. Our only meeting in the FA Cup came in 1974 when we beat them 4-1 at Boundary Park and we repeated that scoreline five seasons later in the first leg of the Anglo-Scottish Cup Final, a win that was big enough to ensure we won the competition.

Whilst we were winning through against Grimsby via the spot kicks, Oldham had a more comfortable passage into the next round with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Mansfield Town at Boundary Park where their scorers were Neil Kilkenny, Jean-Paul Kalala, Deane Smalley and Craig Davies. Former Burnley loan player Michael Ricketts was in the Oldham side.

The tie is expected to be played on Tuesday 28th August with a 7:45 p.m. kick off.
