Clarets get away draw in FA Cup

Last updated : 08 December 2002 By Tony Scholes
We had to wait some time before ball number 8 came out and it followed that of Grimsby Town.

There will be immediate thoughts of the recent league game there that ended 6-5 to Grimsby but that is hardly likely to happen again.

A bad venue for the Clarets in the league but in three cup ties there we have remained unbeaten. There were draws in the 1968/69 League Cup and the 1997/98 Auto Windscreen Trophy but our last visit in the FA Cup was even more successful.

That was also in the 3rd round in the 1973/74 season and goals from Ray Hankin and Keith Newton secured a 2-0 win as we set off on a cup run that saw us reach the semi-final.

The tie is expected to be played on Saturday 4th January 2003 with the television companies unlikely to choose it.
