Clarets bid for Scotland

He offer from the Clarets is in excess of £1 million for the 30-year-old Trinidadian but Jenkins said: "Burnley have made an approach for Jason Scotland, but our valuation for a player who has finished as our top scorer for the last two seasons is miles apart. We value Jason very highly; after all he has scored 53 goals in the last two seasons for us."

Jenkins then interestingly added: "I think everyone in football is well aware now that we do not need to sell anyone and we certainly won't let any player go for below what we think they are worth, whether that is Jason Scotland or anyone else for that matter."

Only last week Jenkins warned Swans' fans that they may not be able to keep players such as Angel Rangel, Ferrie Bodde and Scotland.

However, this looks very much like the Martin Paterson situation a year ago with the player already making it clear he would like the opportunity to move on and step up a division.

Scotland has one year left on his deal at Swansea after signing from St. Johnstone in the summer of 2007, Coyle then selling him for £25,000. His agent Mike Berry has said: "Jason would like Swansea to seriously consider the bid because he has aspirations to play in the Premier League.

"He has sweated blood for Swansea in the last few years and hopefully the fans have enjoyed his performances. But Jason has turned 30, he wants to play at the highest level and play in the Premier League and this is an opportunity for him to play at the top, and I think everyone at Swansea would agree he has earned the right to do so.

"Negotiations are still on-going, but it is a substantial bid. I believe the bid from Burnley is in excess of £1 million.

"But Wigan are very interested so it will be interesting. Jason, though, is a Swansea City player so any deal, whichever club he goes to, has got to be right for Swansea."

Almost certainly Jason Scotland has played his last game in Swansea colours, all that remains to be seen is where he moves to, and it is Burnley who have moved in first to try and make him one of our first Premier League signings.
