Clarets beat the deadline

It was all a rush and Chief Executive Dave Edmundson revealed on local radio that the forms were received by the Football League with just five minutes to spare to ensure the 20 year-old became a Claret.

He joined us on trial just under a fortnight ago and has impressed enough for the Clarets to offer him a two year deal. We have paid the Supporters’ Trust owned club an initial fee of £25,000 but that could rise on appearances and AFC Telford also had a sell on clause included.

His chairman at New Bucks Head Lee Carter said, “It is the biggest fee that’s been received here in living memory. We’ve lost a superb player and we wish him all the best at his new club.

"We really could not stand in his way with an opportunity like this, but we have also made sure that it is a good deal for AFC Telford. Wolves have been very professional in their dealings with us and I do feel sorry that they have missed out on him.”

Added to that his manager at Telford, Bernard McNally, had nothing but praise for Courtney and said, “Duane has been a delight to manager. His whole attitude is great. He’s a true professional and will make a very good living at football. He’s got desire, sets himself goals and I’m delighted to have given him the opportunity to get back into the game after he was released by Birmingham City.

“I’ve got nothing but praise for him and I am sure he will have a successful future. He’ll be difficult to replace, but neither I nor the club could stand in his way. Players will hear about this now and realise that this club is the biggest shop window outside the Conference.”
