There’s a lot of work going on there with a completely new pitch being prepared beyond the all weather surface, this won’t be ready for some time yet but will at last provide the players with somewhere decent to train.
Work has been carried out on the bridge and Gawthorpe groundsman Arthur Bellamy had a spring in his step having got himself a new tractor.
For the players though it is the usual hard work and for much of the time this morning it was purely running work in the pouring rain that often seems to find its way down there. They were under the charges of the entire coaching staff of Steve Cotterill, Dave Kevan, Mark Yates and Cliff Roberts along with the two physios.
The goalkeepers disappeared along with their coach but it is fair to say that most of the rest of them looked in good shape as they were put through their paces as they look to reach full match fitness in time for the opening fixture at Crewe in just under five weeks time.
All the five new faces were there joining the players remaining from last season but there were no surprise signings and no suggestions as yet that any further signings are imminent.
There’ll be a good number of days like this for the players over the next few weeks but they will soon be back in action – we play Cheltenham in just fourteen days time.
