Claret and Blue Carnival – all systems go

Last updated : 19 July 2002 By Tony Scholes

Six of Millwall’s home matches next season will be home fans only with one of those being the game against the Clarets. There has been much confusion as to whether the Millwall fans would be banned from the corresponding away matches. The press release at the time seemed to suggest that but at this time only Burnley have said NO to Millwall fans this coming season.

Clarets Mad cannot under any circumstances complain about our ban at the New Den and then support a ban of Millwall fans at Turf Moor. We believe that everything should always be done to prevent good supporters from being stopped from watching their team at any game.

However with the decision made we did decided to launch a campaign for the game called Claret and Blue Carnival and we called upon Burnley Football Club to take some actions for the game.

They immediately responded to tell us that they would support the carnival but what about our other requests:

We asked them to consider allowing season ticket holders in the other three stands to switch to the Cricket Field End for this game.

Today the club said: As this is expected to be a popular option, season ticket holders will be able to exchange their seats from the main stands to the Cricket Field Stand, by bringing their season ticket book down to the Ticket Office. There will be no additional charge to do this.

We asked them to consider having an unreserved seating policy for this game in the Cricket Field Stand. There has been no news of this.

We asked them to consider reduced admission as with the Grimsby game last season.

Today the club said: Burnley supporters will be able to watch the Clarets' Turf Moor clash with Millwall in the First Division for only £10. Tickets will cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions all around the ground for the game.

Tickets by the way go on sale next Tuesday 23rd July and season ticket holders wishing to switch will need to take their season ticket books to the ticket office to obtain a ticket for the Cricket Field End. See Ticket Details

It is still tinged with some sadness, fans of one of the competing clubs being banned can never be acceptable but we as Burnley supporters have been given no option.

The Claret and Blue Carnival has been launched by Clarets Mad, it has been supported wholeheartedly by Burnley Football Club. Now it is up to you.

Just get your tickets, fill the stands and wear your shirts, your scarves and anything else Claret and Blue. We repeat what we said in June, let’s turn the game into a
