Chappy's name has been very much in the news since the transfer window opened. Out of the reckoning at the Hawthorns he has started just one league game for them since being named in the starting line up against the Clarets on the opening day of the season.

He's been at West Brom for three years since leaving the Turf in January 2005 and there had been speculation that he might be on his way back to Burnley. Baggies boss Tony Mowbray revealed yesterday that we'd enquired about him but said we were not in a position to take it further.

That suggested the asking price was too high and it does seem that could be the case with him moving to Deepdale today for a fee that could rise as high as £1.35 million, just £150,000 less than the figure we received for him.

Preston will pay an immediate £800,000 with the rest in performance related add ons. He has signed a contract with Preston until the end of the 2011/12 season with the club holding an option for a further year.
