Television have a major influence in football now and that also includes the timing of cup draws, but some explanation of a 7:00 a.m. scheduling for this would be interesting. That’s the time it went ahead this morning.

Carlisle are back in the Football League after one year in the Conference, a club that seems to go from one crisis to another, and currently they are in a major fight with their Supporters Trust over share issues.

This is our second meting in this particular competition but the last one didn’t go too well for the Clarets, in the same round thirteen years ago as we got used to life in the new Division Two.

We came up against a Carlisle side inspired by their two strikers George Oghani and Andy Watson, and were hammered 4-1 in the first leg at Brunton Park with Danny Sonner scoring his only first team goal for the Clarets.

We didn’t come close to pulling it back in the second leg either and trailed for some time to an Oghani goal before John Pender scored an equaliser – but it was Carlisle who went through on a 5-2 aggregate.

This will be our first competitive fixture against them since Chris Waddle’s Burnley went down 2-1 at Brunton Park when a Marlon Beresford howler in the last minute cost us a point. Marlon was transferred before the next game.

The draw was split into two (north and south) with half the teams in both sections seeded and guaranteed a tie against non seeds.

The full draw is:
