Carlisle gets goal of the month

Clarke Carlisle
The Clarets scored ten goals during September, including a penalty at Colchester. There were some very good goals in that selection including Robbie Blake's at Sheffield Wednesday and our first two at Colchester from Alan Mahon and Andy Gray. Gray's was my particular favourite during the month.

But it was the goal from Clarke Carlisle in the last minute of stoppage time at Bristol City that walked away with it this month. We'd been a goal in front until ten minutes from the end and then found ourselves staring defeat in the face.

That was until we got a ball to the far post from the left. Steven Caldwell headed it down and back into the middle for Ade Akinbiyi to turn and get in a shot. That shot was blocked but that block only succeeded in pushing the ball into the air. Ade got in a header and it dropped for Carlisle who hit a dramatic overhead kick into the net.

It was a spectacular goal, it was a point saving goal, and you've voted and voted for it. By the time the voting closed last night that goal had polled no less than 59.5% of the vote to take the September title.

Blake's first league goal of the season at Hillsborough was some way behind in second place, securing 11.4% of the vote whilst that excellently worked goal finished by Andy Gray to give us a 2-0 lead at Colchester was third with 8.4%.

Carlisle's goal now joins the third in the Carling Cup win scored by Ade which won the August Goal of the Month.
