Cardiff game off

At this stage there is no new date for the game and Burnley's next game will now be on Boxing Day when we travel to Barnsley.

Cardiff City, in confirming the decision, reported that it had been postponed following consultation with and advice from the Safety Advisory Group and the Football League.

Graham Bond, Group Leader of Cardiff Council Safety Advisory Group, said: "On inspection of the stadium and local environment it became clear to me that despite valiant efforts of stadium staff, the current persistent and heavy falls of snow were making their attempt to provide a safe environment for tomorrow's match futile.

"Not withstanding the difficulties that the ground staff have experienced with removing snow from the pitch, large areas of the stands have several inches of snow that will be difficult to move bearing in mind the current conditions and forecast.

"Surrounding footpaths and car parks are currently under six inches of snow and whilst I understand that efforts have been made to bring in machinery to assist, as with the pitch the current, persistent and forecasted snowfall will make efforts ineffective.

"While main roads are passable with care, side streets remain hazardous and it is pragmatic that only essential journeys are made at this time in the Cardiff area. After taking all of these factors into consideration, I strongly recommend that the match be postponed."

Gethin Jenkins, Cardiff City's CEO, added: "It's disappointing for all of us that the match has to have been called off following advice of the Safety Advisory Group and the Football League, but we have to place the safety of supporters as our primary concern in such difficult weather conditions."
