Card hungry Williamson is referee

Last updated : 04 March 2005 By Tony Scholes

In just 6 matches so far he has handed out an incredible 30 yellow cards although thankfully only Walsall’s Ian Roper, in a 0-0 draw at Torquay, has been sent off by him.

He hasn’t picked on the away teams either, unlike another Berkshire referee Paul Armstrong, and 17 of those yellow cards have been given to home team players and 13 to away team players.

This is Williamson’s third season on the league list and his only previous Burnley match was the 2-2 draw at West Ham last season when, despite handing out five yellow cards, he had a reasonably good game.

We can only hope that he has ended his early season enthusiasm card wise and that he keeps them in his pocket as much as possible tomorrow, and we can only hope that he is somewhat fair to both sides unlike his county colleague earlier this week.

He will be assisted by Dave Birkett (Lincolnshire) and Tony McGee (Merseyside).
