Cap number ten for Lafferty

Last updated : 05 June 2014 By Tony Scholes

Northern Ireland have been in South America for two internationals. Lafferty was used as a substitute in the first one, coming on for Newcastle's Shane Ferguson in a 1-0 defeat against Uruguay, and he was a substitute again in this second game, again replacing Ferguson, this time with just 12 minutes of the game remaining .

It probably wasn't the best of times to come on. The scores were level when he was introduced but four minutes later they found themselves 2-0 to goals scored by Eduardo Vargas and Mauricio Pinilla.

And that was cap number ten for the left-back who last week signed a new deal that will keep him at Turf Moor for a further three years.

There was no 66th cap for Chris Baird who was with the Clarets for the last two months of last season. He'd played in the Uruguay game but had been rated very doubtful for the Chile fixture because of tonsillitis. He was passed fit but was an unused substitute.

The INTERNATIONALS feature has been updated with Lafferty's tenth appearance.
