Cahill wins it – just

The award goes to the player who wins the most man of the match awards on our voting polls in a season that has seen over 16,000 votes cast. That has previously proved to be simple but both Cahill and McGreal have picked up nine awards each and that’s five more than Robbie Blake, Danny Coyne and Micah Hyde who are joint third with four awards each.

We considered having joint winners but have decided to give the Player of the Year title to Gary Cahill simply because his nine awards came from considerably less games than John McGreal.

Cahill follows on from previous winners Arthur Gnohere, Graham Branch and Robbie Blake since we introduced the award in the 2001/02 season.

We now await the Goal of the Season winner and voting is now going ahead with a choice of all the monthly winners throughout the season.
