Cahill stays – for now

Steve Cotterill said this week that he would like to keep Cahill at Burnley for longer and even spoke of trying to converting the deal into a long term loan until the end of the season.

That hasn’t happened but Villa have allowed an extra month which is some very good news for us.

He arrived just in time, literally, to take his place in the side that took on Spurs in the Carling Cup and has been in the side ever since covering initially for Frank Sinclair and then John McGreal.

There is no doubt that he looks a very good player in the making and after another excellent performance last Saturday against Millwall he won the Man of the Match vote on this site.

He hasn’t had it easy either and in his games to date has come up against the likes of Defoe, Keane, Taylor, King, Johnson, Claridge, Dobie and Dichio.

It is good news that he is here for some time longer.
