Cahill gets England call up

Cahill, who was with us on loan from Aston Villa during the 2004/05 season, has twice previously been named in the provisional squad but this is his first call up and comes after an excellent first full season at Bolton.

Now aged 23, he said of his call up: "I've had a good season and I've worked really hard. I've been in the provisional squad twice before and then this third time I was included once again, so I'm obviously delighted to get the call."

It's unlikely that he will start. Coach Fabio Capello is expected to name either Matthew Upson or Joleon Lescott to partner captain John Terry at the centre of the defence for the game to be played at Almaty.
