Cahill back in the North West

Gary Cahill
The speculation has never stopped as far as our former loan player is concerned during this transfer window. He'd returned to Aston Villa from Sheffield United where he had played on loan but he wisely opted not to make the move a permanent one.

Back at Villa it was obvious that he wasn't part of Martin O'Neill's plans and he was soon in demand as Birmingham, Bolton and RK Sunderland all showed more than a keen interest. Initially it looked as though Birmingham was to be his destination but the move just down the road looked off when Alex McLeish had his offer refused.

It was Bolton who came in with the acceptable offer and he's been in talks with Gary Megson over the past few days. Even then Birmingham came back in, but Cahill has finally decided to move up to the North West and this evening completed his move to the Reebok Stadium.

I suppose that ends all the suggestions that we should try and sign him, having gone for a fee close to five times our transfer record. We at Burnley all know just how good a player Bolton are getting for their money. He'll prove to be a very good signing for them.
