Bury will see us as a big scalp

Bury got their season off to a good start with a 1-0 win over Brentford courtesy of an Andy Bishop goal and boss Knill is looking for more of the same even though he realises this could be a tough game against a side from two divisions higher.

"Tonight's game is huge," he said. "I've watched a DVD of Burnley's game on Saturday at Sheffield Wednesday and I've read Owen Coyle's comments. Obviously he is disappointed to start the season with a 4-1 loss, and obviously they will be coming here to try and put things right.

"For us, it is just another challenge to see where we are and to see if we can compete, and we are quite confident that we can. Burnley have some quality players, and they have spent heavily, but at the end of the day, it is even players versus eleven players. We will see and we are in pretty good shape."

The one thing Owen Coyle is looking for is a positive reaction following Saturday's embarrassing defeat. "I think that's the beauty of football, you always have an opportunity to go and address what went before," he said.

"It's an opportunity for the players to go and right some wrongs and make sure we are ready to go from there. To say it was a disappointment on Saturday was an understatement and we would never have envisaged that start to the season, but it has happened and it is now a matter of how we deal with it.

"There are things to be worked on and we will leave no stone unturned as we look to rectify it. It is important we go to Bury in good heart, ready to get a victory and progress in the cup competition. if you can get a decent run there is a financial reward and you also get to come up against some big clubs, will all the glamour and prestige which goes with that.

"I always as a player loved cup competitions. I have been on both sides of it, as the favourite and the underdog and I think that's why we all love these competitions. We will go there as favourites and Bury will see us as a big scalp to take so we have to make sure we are at our best.

"You're on a hiding to nothing because you are expected to win and you don't it is seen as a shock. The atmosphere will be second to none and we have to make sure we are ready to give the fans something to shout about and express ourselves.

"To do that you have to earn the right to play because Bury won't be standing back in admiration and they will be feeling it is an opportunity for them to win a cup tie against a Championship side."
