Karbassiyoon joined the Gunners as a forward but was moved initially onto the left hand side of midfield before he settled into a left back role and although he left Highbury without playing in the Premiership he did play in three Carling Cup wins for them last season against Manchester City, Everton and Manchester United.

He came on as a late substitute in the first of those wins at the City of Manchester Stadium and, in front of the live television cameras, scored the winning goal.

Last December he moved to Ipswich on a three month loan period and initially impressed, turning in a superb man of the match performance against Bolton in the FA Cup even though Ipswich were beaten.

However, his opportunities were cut short when Joe Royle signed David Unsworth and he returned early to Highbury only to find that he was one of five youngsters to be released at the of the season.

The Virginia born player will now be hoping to make an impact with the Clarets and with an obvious vacancy in the left back position will be hoping to slot straight into the team.

It’s a welcome for our first ever American player who arrives just in time for pre-season training at the end of this week.
