Burnley set to drop Solovjovs chase

Solovjovs played three games for the Clarets against Glentoran, Bradford City and then as a substitute against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and Coyle was keen to bring him to Turf Moor on a permanent basis.

However, the £400,000 fee wanted by his club Olimps Riga was a stumbling block and Coyle has said today that the move has hit a stumbling block. He said: "I won't say the door is closed, but we won't be doing anything imminent on that one at the moment. I think dialogue is always important and that will continue, but I just thing the two clubs are at different pitches at the moment.

"As much as we have been looking for players in that wide left area that is not my priority at the moment, which was also one of the reasons for putting that on hold just now.

The manager has also dismissed out of hand the speculation linking us with Ipswich Town's Alex Bruce and added: "The defence has been an area I have been trying to strengthen all summer and we have been close a few times before being thwarted by various things.

"But we continue in that search and I have one or two things out there just now. If they come back then we will move quickly on them."
