The New Jersey born striker started his professional career with New York Red Bulls but moved to Spain last summer. He's played occasionally for his new club and also spent time out on loan in the Spanish second division with Xerez.

Altidore had a good Confederations Cup and scored the American's first goal in the 2-0 win over Spain and it has led to the interest in him. It isn't certain whether Villareal are ready to part with him or allow him out on loan.

Fulham are firm favourites should he move whilst Phil Brown at Hull is also keen given that he's been chasing just about every striker there is available. Everton have also previously been involved in an offer for him whilst it appears the Clarets could be watching the situation.

A spokesman for Villareal said: ""It is still not decided where Altidore will go. We have some propositions and it is possible something will be decided by the end of the week."
