Burnley full backs extend season with international calls

Chris Baird has 64 caps for Northern Ireland

Baird came into Turf Moor in March after an injury ruled Kieran Trippier out ahead of the trip to Charlton. Manager Sean Dyche moved quickly to acquire his services after he'd been left without a club in January as cash strapped Reading were unable to offer him an extension to his deal.

He deputised for Trippier in five games and made two more substitute appearances before the end of the season and there has been some speculation that Dyche would like to keep him at Turf Moor for next season at least.

He's an experienced international having already played 64 times for his country. Only Aaron Hughes (88) and Steven Davis (66) of the named squad have won more caps than Baird who has been named alongside Lafferty.

It's almost two years since Lafferty made his international bow, and it was probably not the best of games to start. He was named in the Northern Ireland team for a friendly against Holland in Amsterdam on 2nd June 2012 in a game that proved to be Michael Duff's 24th and last appearance for his country.

Holland won that game 6-0 but Lafferty has  since gone on to make a further seven appearances, five of which were in the recent World Cup qualifying campaign, including the 1-0 win against Russia in Belfast on the eve of the 2013/14 season.

He hasn't featured for the Clarets since the 1-1 home draw against Sheffield Wednesday in January but has now received this latest call up for the two prestigious friendly fixtures against two of the World Cup qualifiers.

The first of the two games is against Uruguay which will be played on Friday 30th May at the Estadio Centernario in Montevideo and they will follow that up with a fame against Chile at the Estadio Playa Ancha in Valparaiso.

The full squad is: ROY CARROLL (OLYMPIACOS), MICHAEL McGOVERN (FALKIRK), TREVOR CARSON (PORTSMOUTH), DANNY LAFFERTY (BURNLEY), RYAN McLAUGHLIN (LIVERPOOL), AARON HUGHES (QPR), LUKE McCULLOUGH (DONCASTER), LIAM DONNELLY (FULHAM), CHRIS BAIRD (BURNLEY), STEVEN DAVIS (SOUTHAMPTON), OLIVER NORWOOD (HUDDERSFIELD), SHANE FERGUSON (NEWCASTLE), CORRY EVANS (BLACKBURN), SAMMY CLINGAN (KILMARNOCK), JONNY STEELE (NEW YORK RED BULLS), PAUL PATON (DUNDEE UNITED), NIALL McGINN (ABERDEEN), BILLY McKAY (INVERNESS), MARTIN PATERSON (HUDDERSFIELD), JAMIE WARD (DERBY), DEAN SHIELS (RANGERS), JOSH MAGENNIS (ABERDEEN)
