Burnley debut for referee

The referee is Sussex based official Clive Penton who will also be officiating at Carrow Road for the first time although he was the referee for Norwich’s away game at Gillingham last season.

He’s been pretty consistent this season with his yellow cards, in five matches so far he has handed out four yellow cards in each of them. In the first two of those games they went to one home player and three away players but in the last three games it has been two each.

Apart from the yellow cards he has also managed to give his 2003/04 season red card some action. In his first game of the season it came out of his pocket to send off former Claret Brad Maylett as Swansea went down 4-1 at Bristol City in the Carling Cup. He had previously yellow carded Maylett and the other ex-Claret in the game Lenny Johnrose.

That was it until last week when he was in charge of the Division Three match between Torquay and Leyton Orient at Plainmoor. He sent off Craig Taylor of Torquay along with Leyton Orient’s Gary Alexander after just ten minutes in an incident that brought about a brawl involving most of the players. And Matt Lockwood (Leyton Orient) also saw red in stoppage time.

Tomorrow he will be assisted by Michael McPherson (Cambridgeshire) and Dean Whitestone (Northamptonshire).
