I'm assuming that any deal will be from the beginning of January once the transfer window is open but with the League of Ireland's 2009 season over he won't be involved there.
The 19-year-old was thought to be interesting Preston and last month got his first international call up to the Republic's Under-21 team after impressing in his first full season at Cork.
When Don Givens called him up he said: "I am absolutely delighted to receive the call and, to be honest, it has come as a bit of a shock. It is the first time I have been called upon for international duty so it is a very proud moment for me."
Long has now been in the Under-21 squad for three games and has been a substitute although is still waiting to get on for his debut.
