The 17-year-old former Blackburn Rovers junior turned down the opportunity of a move to Bury last summer to continue his studies but with both the Clarets and Blackpool checking him out it could be time for him to follow in his dad's footsteps and start a Football League career.

Neither of the two managers, Owen Coyle and Simon Grayson, have spoken about the player but Coyle admitted: "I've got no doubts that lower league players can make the step up. The magic in it is making sure you spot the right ones.

"But there are players far and wide playing at a lower level that can step up. I know myself from coming through as a part-time player, you aspire to be the best and you really want an opportunity, and if you get the opportunity, then it's up to you to take that."

Grayson commented: "There are some very good players in every division and as a manager you have to keep your eyes open and cast your net far and wide. It's a big step up from the lower leagues to the Championship but I'm sure there are some players who are capable of doing it."

Walwyn is also still interesting Bury whilst both Rochdale and Stockport are believed to have expressed an interest but could continue playing part time football aligned with his studies.

His late father Keith passed away at the age of 47 after a league career with Chesterfield, York, Blackpool and Carlisle and I can still recall his outstanding performance against us alongside Dale Banton and Keith Houchen on Boxing Day 1984 at York when we went down to a 4-0 defeat.
