Burley in at Pride Park

Derby boss John Gregory is currently suspended and Mark Lillis was put in temporary charge but that all changed today at the club where it is difficult to keep track of the comings and goings.

Gregory remains suspended following serious allegations and George Burley has been brought in to take over but is only for the period whilst Gregory remains suspended.

Derby Chairman Lionel Pickering said of the appointment, "George is highly respected for his abilities as a football manager and his integrity as an individual and is exactly the type of person Derby needs at this juncture".

Burley was Ipswich boss until October of last year when Sheep Dip made him the scapegoat following a less than impressive start to the season after last season’s relegation. Looking at the state of the Suffolk club now he should have started closer to home than Burley when he started handing out the blame.

But Burley’s appointment (however temporary) is not the only change at Pride Park. First team coach Billy McEwan who had previously been sacked has now been re-instated following an appeal but coach Ross MacLaren and physio Scott Walker have now joined Gregory on the suspended list while an inquiry is held following allegations which have been made against them.

As for Gregory it is now ten days since he was suspended following serious allegations made against him that apparently have had a major adverse effect on the club. It can only be assumed that he won’t be getting back to work in the near future with Burley now sat behind his desk.
