Bruce leaves Wigan for Sunderland

So when Rodgers makes the move to his former club Reading later today I won't be reporting it, but I can report that yesterday Steve Bruce did what he built a reputation for doing a few years ago, he walked out of one club to join another.

His second spell at Wigan has been longer than his first (18 months) but he's decided to move to Sunderland and yesterday signed a three year deal with them. In his new job it is expected he will have a transfer kitty this summer of £50 million.

That leaves David Whelan looking for yet another manager to install at the Concrete Jungle and it is clear that he wants his former player Roberto Martinez. Having agreed a compensation package for Bruce he's not currently prepared to pay Swansea's asking price for Martinez although it would be a big surprise if he didn't become their next manager.

As an aside, Owen Coyle is the tenth longest serving manager amongst those in the Premier League.
