Broomes heads to Deepdale

Marlon Broomes - in a Burnley shirt for the last time
We shouldn’t have built our hopes up of making our first signing since the end of last season because Broomes has now signed for Preston after having a medical this afternoon.

It is acknowledged that Preston are in a far healthier position than the Clarets and have offered the defender a two year contract. Burnley on the other hand were only offering him an initial eight weeks.

With Arthur injured and Coxy not having played too much it looks as though the Clarets were trying to get him on a short deal to cover for them and the possibility that he would be out of work again next week.

He had his first contact with Preston last week but admitted that he had been aware of their interest for some time. To be honest once they had offered him the deal there was no hope whatsoever of him signing for Burnley.

Offering players eight week contracts does suggest that the club are in a far worse position financially than was first believed and with rumours of a big departure in the next week or so the squad could be further hit.

One thing for certain now though is that with one Marlon at York and the other at Preston there will be no new signings when the Clarets get the season underway against Brighton on Saturday.
