Bristol City striker not for Burnley

At the time we thought that the link was there for no other reason than the fact that we almost took him on loan over a couple of years ago. There seemed very little evidence that we were showing any interest in the player who scored seventeen league goals last season for Bristol City including a hat-trick on the opening day of the season against Northampton.

Thorpe is out of contract and available on a free Bosman transfer and the clue as to where he might go was in Last week's article back to his old club Luton Town. He joined the Hatters as an 18 year-old from his home town club Leicester and following big money moves to Fulham and then Bristol City has had two further spells with them on loan.

He has always wanted to go back and today he has signed a two year deal with them and admitted that once he heard of Luton's interest that was it and he was not looking elsewhere.

Looking at his record Thorpe has been a consistent goal scorer in the Second Division and will probably do well back at Luton but when given the opportunity at a higher level he has failed to deliver.
